The Santa Barbara Education Foundation extends our heartfelt appreciation to Mat Gradias, who is stepping down from the board after seven years of dedicated service, including four years as Board President.

Under Mat’s steady leadership, SBEF navigated key transitions and implemented a new strategic plan, strengthening the foundation’s impact and deepening support for local public schools. His vision, commitment, and unwavering belief in the power of education have left a lasting mark on our community.

Board member Tisha Jones shared, “It has been such a pleasure being on the SBEF board with Mat at the helm. His leadership is calm and positive, and he has a fun sense of humor. When issues have been difficult, Mat’s comments always come from a place of compassion and integrity, which have visibly calmed the board and made us take pause.”

“Mat’s tenure on the board, especially his time as President, has had a deep impact on our organization,” shared Katie Szopa, Interim Executive Director. “His thoughtful leadership and dedication to public education helped shape SBEF’s direction at a pivotal time. We are so grateful for the heart and care he has poured into this community.”
