Maggie Mason taught a wide range of English classes during her 25 years at Dos Pueblos High School. When she retired in 2019, she could have been satisfied knowing that many students had developed their writing skills and appreciation for literature through her classes. Instead, she worried about the students who needed more of her time when she was a teacher. Her years of experience inspired a solution. This year, Maggie worked with the SBEF to establish a legacy gift benefiting disadvantaged students and high school English teachers at the same time.
She notes, “My hope is that the Mason Fund for Equity will provide hard-working English educators with some relief from the pressures of prepping, teaching, and grading for one class so that they can mentor and tutor students who could use an intensive, ongoing boost from an experienced English teacher.”
We thank Legacy Society member Maggie Mason for her vision and generosity in supporting Santa Barbara Unified students and teachers!
